One last huddle.

Ohio State battled Indiana closely in the first period, trailing 1-0, before being overwhelmed in the second period to fall to 4-0 in the Big Ten semi-final match.

Indiana scored at the 16:51 mark on a goal by Corey Thomas to take an early 1-0 lead, which held up through the first period. So far, so good. Ohio State was out-shot 8-3, but solid defense (3 saves, 3 blocks) kept this a one goal match.

In the first period, Ohio State had shot attempts by Abdi Mohamed (9:43 mark), Nate Kohl (25:16) and Kevin Blackwood (26:59).

The 2nd period was all Indiana. MSU in terms of what offense could be mustered. They scored quickly after the intermission on a goal by Andrew Gutman (46:48 mark) to go up 2-0. Indiana goals at the 61:27 mark by Francisco Moore and at 70:19 by Austin Panchot completed the scoring.

Ohio State had its first shot in the second period at the 75:08 mark by Matt Kiley. They had a flurry at the end of the match with two shots by Hunter Robertson at 85:20 and 87:14.

Indiana out-shot Ohio State 17 – 6. The Hoosiers had 9 shots on goal and the Buckeyes had 3 shots on goal.

Goalie Parker Siegfried had a tough afternoon.  Four goals were allowed, but it could have been much worse. Parker made 5 saves and his team mates blocked 6 other Hoosier shots. Of Indiana’s 17 shots, only 2 were high or wide of the goal.

Next Up

Ohio State’s (8-10-1) season is over. Despite ending the season with a  sub .500 record, the Buckeyes improved their record by three games and advanced into the 2nd round of the B1G Tournament.
